The British Isles

by The Gorstey Lea Street Choir

/

about

A track inspired by Joe Strummers infamous MTV speech 'Without People, You're Nothing'.

A tonic for these times, a call to unification.

lyrics

Pulling us deep into the waters
Fighting for ‘the now’ the union
Time ticks on a spiral diver
Playing into the hands of delusion
Are we 'nothing without the people'?
Like Joe said
Like a full moon on no river?
No thunder bed
Climbing aboard the lifeboats
The clocks they wont stop us from falling

Chasing the white doe
Running up against old father time
The English born sol
Morning my bird song unto the sire
They'll be fighting in the streets and towns
They will battle in the streets and towns
Of the British Isles… the British Isles

Young boy stares at Fox Farm weather vein
Praying for those long hot summer days
Uprising, a card out of character
A standing jump into the harvest haze
One day the divided people call your name
Like a full moon on your river…
Then Joe came
Climbing aboard the story boat
The clocks they won't stop you from running

Chasing the white doe
Running up against old father time
The English born sol
Morning my bird song unto the sire

They'll be fighting in the streets and towns
They will battle in the streets and towns
They'll be fighting in the streets
In the streets and towns
They’ll do battle in the streets
In the streets, the streets, the streets
The streets and towns

The streets and towns
The British Isles…
One day the divided people…
