Mark G Starting off with ‘Up With the Larks’, Gorstey Lea Street Choir (GLSC) pitch their LP high. They don’t fall.
Instrumentally and vocally, the opener is like waking up at dawn the first day of spring.
The idea of making the most of what you have continues thematically eg.’That Chitty Bang Majik’. There are delicious hooks and melodies that run through the album, giving it an air of optimism. Which in these dark days of winter (& more) is a light we should all heard towards. Favorite track: That Chitty Bang Majik.

Up with the larks... minds ticking... Awaiting the gold...waiting for gold... And now that the 7’s prevailing Inside our every thoughts So shoot those rays of sunshine There's a new tomorrow a’coming Come running - Come running Rain it will now stop falling… From a sadness that we once knew Remember those days Remember those days You calling out Me calling out your names So shoot those rays of sunshine On these fifty seeds o’green It’s the start of something Come running - Come running Resurrection a sense of belonging Hesitation a fear of not knowing Believe and I'll do too Breathe… So shoot those rays of sunshine There's a new tomorrow a’coming The start of new beginnings Come running - Come running Remember those days Remember those days Remember those days Calling out your name Calling out your name Calling out your name Up with the larks minds ticking Awaiting the gold Waiting for gold

One summer long ago before this all began We left school for fame and fortune Took all our dreams away From these fields of green and hunger Packed all our bags away To gold lined streets without a plan In our little rowing boat Bluebird, Hollywood, domino, Star filled skies, pots of gold, One eye on the danger One eye on the dream Charms like the ocean From childhood is a line to the present time Three wishes for tomorrow We never wished for pain or sorrow I’ve always got you, and I’ll always have you Don’t want to be the first to blow Bluebird, Hollywood, domino, Star filled skies, pots of gold, Bluebird, Hollywood, domino, Star filled skies, pots of gold, Bluebird, Hollywood, domino, Star filled skies, pots of gold…

A ransom note and a one way ticket Sonnet for the summers to come Round here were fields, corner-shops and public houses, Pastures of green… now not so super, supermarkets A message came through on Monday morning pre 10 To wave a white flag to the working week ‘Begin the Beguine’ Do you…Remember those days? Fast forward to the future A sonnet for the seasons long gone Predictions will be made built for the final stage A one way ticket to the moon… A message came through late Friday evening past 10 You see your ‘Touch ID’s’ unrecognised Power down and start again Do you…Remember those days? One way A ransom note A white flag Welcome to the future Another season drifting away Do you…Remember those days?

Hello brightness my old friend Come and confide in me again I know that it is sub-li-minal So things can be far less complicated Time is like a metaphor For all the days that have gone by I know that I am no great healer No soothsayer just a faker I'm leaving this burnt town Tomorrow night on a runaway train I need to seize this time Sorry for lack of communication My heart and head in the sand With carpe diem frustration I keep on looking (I keep on looking) They tell me it's not too far (…it's not too far) I keep on asking (I keep on asking) Praying for the flying car… Hello blue line my old friend I've come to reason life again If you are buying we are selling No time to stray I've got rent to pay kid Time is washed away again For every hour of yesterday The magic isn't too far away No time to save I've got bills to pay kid I'm leaving this burnt town Tomorrow night on a runaway train I need to seize this time Sorry for lack of communication My heart and head in the sand With carpe diem frustration I keep on looking (I keep on looking) They tell me it's not too far (…it's not too far) I keep on asking (I keep on asking) Praying for the flying car… I keep on looking (I keep on looking) They tell me it's not too far (…it's not too far) I keep on asking (I keep on asking) Praying for the flying car…. I'm leaving this burnt town Tomorrow night on a runaway train I need to seize this time Sorry for lack of communication My heart and head in the sand With carpe diem frustration I'm need to burnt this down Sorry for lack of communication…

about

'... from Prince's Park to Farsley - Volume I' is a tale of two towns.

Consisting of 8 tracks conceived and mainly recorded in Burntwood and then 4 songs re-imagined in Farsley.

The first town in this story is Burntwood, Staffordshire and a journey that began for the Gorstey duo of Russ and Michael some 36 years (and counting) ago... however you probably know that tale by now....

The second town is Farsley in Yorkshire.
Over the lockdown winter of 2020 Michael reacquainted himself with a vinyl copy of 'Cresta' by The Hollow Me, this then led him to ask the question 'I wonder what happened to Choque?'.
Choque was a member of The Hollow Men' who Michael's then band 'The Great Divide' had supported back in the early 90's. Michael tracked Choque down via the World Wide Web to Farsley... and soon the Gorstey duo and Choque were collaborating... you can hear his genius on 4 tracks here.... and by the way Choque had not been 'dormant' for those 30 years you can read about some of his work here:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Star_Liner

For the record 'Prince's Park' is situated in the Gorstey boys hometown of Burntwood and is registered in the Guinness Book of Records as the smallest park in the UK and in May 2013, the park was the venue for the World's Shortest Fun Run...
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prince%27s_Park

The title '...from Prince's Park to Farsley' is also a nod to some of their favourite artists... can you guess? Answers on a postcard...

Stay safe, be well
Over and out… for now…
